Pavers vs. poured concrete: which patio lasts here?
Our winters are a stress test for any hardscape. Water gets into the smallest crack, freezes, expands, and pries materials apart. That single fact drives most of the patio decision in Central New York.
Poured concrete is fast and clean, but a monolithic slab has nowhere to move — so it cracks. Interlocking pavers flex with the ground, and a single damaged unit can be lifted and swapped without touching the rest.
For most clients we recommend pavers over a properly compacted, well-drained base. Built right, the base is the project; the stone you see is the easy part. Done well, it stays flat and tight for decades.
